Christian Ward -Colours and Surprises

February 27th, 2009

I recall at some point in my high school art class, my teacher was trying to teach us how to draw people using principles of form. He told us to cut the face up into planes, to chisel it with our medium as if it were a scupture. These pieces seem to explore the contours of those planes, and to take advantage of the two dimensional aspect of their representation. Patterns, bold shapes, bold colours, and unfilled contours are all parts of Christian Ward’s visual vocabulary… the end result is delightful.
